Preparing for your family session

Your family session should feel relaxed, connected, and true to this season of your life. This guide includes everything you need to feel prepared, from choosing outfits and getting the kids ready to knowing what to expect during our time together.

You don’t need perfectly coordinated children or a family that knows exactly what to do in front of the camera. Come ready to love on your people, play with your kids, and enjoy this time together. I’ll guide you through the rest.

FAQ:

What if my kids don’t cooperate?

Please don’t worry—children are never expected to sit still, smile on command, or behave perfectly. Some of the best moments happen when we let kids be themselves. I’ll follow their lead and keep things moving with plenty of play, cuddles, and breaks when needed.

What should we bring?

Bring anything your child may need to stay comfortable, such as water, a small snack, diapers, wipes, or a favorite comfort item. Please avoid snacks that stain faces, mouths, or clothing.

What if the weather is bad?

I’ll keep an eye on the forecast as your session approaches. If the weather won’t allow us to create the experience we planned, I’ll reach out to discuss rescheduling or choosing another location.

What if we’re running late?

Please plan to arrive about 10 minutes early so everyone has time to settle in. Sessions are scheduled around the best light, so arriving late may shorten the amount of time we have together.

Can we bring our dog?

Absolutely! Pets are part of the family too. Please let me know ahead of time and bring a leash, treats, and someone who can help with your pet when they aren’t being photographed.

Do you pose us?

YES! I’ll gently guide you whenever you need it, but your session won’t feel like a long series of stiff poses. We’ll create a few beautiful portraits while leaving plenty of space for movement, connection, and the real moments that tell your family’s story.

When will we receive our photos?

Your completed gallery will be delivered within 2–4 weeks. You’ll receive an email with a link to view, download, and share your images.

a few notes...

What to Wear

Instead of matching everyone exactly, choose a color palette and coordinate within it. Start with one outfit you really love, usually Mom’s, and build the rest of the family’s looks around it.

Mixing different colors, textures, and layers creates interest while keeping everything cohesive. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors tend to photograph beautifully, but your outfits should also fit your family and the location we’ve chosen.

Try to avoid neon colors, large logos, and too many competing patterns. If one person is wearing a pattern, pull colors from that piece for everyone else’s outfits. Above all, choose clothing that fits well, allows you to move comfortably, and makes you feel confident. We’ll be playing, cuddling, walking, and loving on one another—not standing perfectly still the entire time.
